Dear Mayor Olson:

I have followed with great interest the plight of Kayla’s Krew and their desire to build an all-accessible playground in Franklin. As the Chair of the Milwaukee County Health and Human Needs Committee, I am hopeful that by following this process carefully, Milwaukee County can create a template for creating more all-accessible playgrounds across Milwaukee County.

Supervisor Steve Taylor first brought this issue to my attention by noting his excitement in this project. After Froemming Park became a viable option, he began lobbying the board to create support for this project. Thanks to an exceptional record with his colleagues, he quickly garnered my support.

I understand that Froemming Park is not Kayla’s Krew’s first choice for their proposed playground location. However, I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know that my colleagues and I are committed to working with Supervisor Steve Taylor to make the Froemming Park option work, if that is what is needed to make this project happen. I understand that there was a meeting on Wednesday between the City of Franklin and Milwaukee County to discuss the Froemming Park option. Please know that if the City of Franklin decides to move forward with this option, Milwaukee County is committed to completing this project within Kayla Krew’s designated time frame.

It is my sincere hope that politics never get in the way of a little girl’s most deserving dream. Please know that despite your reservations, Milwaukee County can get this done. I have faith that Supervisor Steve Taylor has laid the ground work with his colleagues and that this project WILL happen if the City of Franklin decides it is the best option for Kayla Krew’s playground.
