FT adds "Political Watch" group under its social media arm
Since the election, FT has watched with much curiosity as how the community's Facebook groups would continuing forward with its content. While the Neighborhood Watch and Community groups are more closely monitored and have had strong-willed administrators to cut the nonsense out, the Political group has gone down a different path.
About a month ago, FT's owner came under fire for defending the remarks of two other members, whose comments were trivial in nature but enough in the political group administrator's mind to ban them from posting or viewing content on the group ever again. As a result, FT too was banned after a lively back-and-forth between FT's owner and the administrator. While it sparked a wave of people also leaving the group, citing the childish behavior of the administrator, he ultimately unblocked everyone in question, including FT, and tried acting like the whole incident never occurred with a mass deletion of the posts.
While FT welcomed the invitation back, one thing has stuck out like a sore thumb - the administrator now holds back any content from anyone until he gives the personal stamp of approval to be posted. During this time, none of FT's content was denied posting, however it's troubling that the group administration chose this route versus being open and simply moderating for inappropriate bullying, harassment, or slanderous comments by members, like its other Facebook counterparts.
This, along with encouragement from supporters of FT, left us with the question - should we venture into making a Facebook group of our own? After some deliberation, and lack of confidence that the political group administrator will remain impartial during serious political debates or topics, FT will be launching "Franklin, WI Political Watch", and can be found by clicking "Groups" on the left of FT's Facebook page (for PC users) or if you scroll down on FT's Facebook page it'll pop up as you scroll. Otherwise, feel free to click this link and be taken directly to the group. As with the other groups, FT will moderate the forum and do its best to keep the online trolls out.
It is our hope that we can provide a open, safe and friendly forum for some serious political conversation, debates and questions. Perhaps at times we might call on Franklin's leaders to opine - who knows! But regardless, FT hopes to see you in the group!
